2008 Simcoe Stakes

The Simcoe at Mohawk gave us a chance to see some extreme first quarter speed, as Luc Ouellette left hard with Dali out of post five, and looked to be set to clear early, but Somebeachsomewhere and driver Paul Macdonell had other ideas and kicked in to a higher gear, putting Dali in the hole and hitting the quarter pole in front in an incredible 25.3!! The pair idled along up by multiple lengths on the rest of the field for a still blistering half in 53.2, and then Somebeachsomewhere started to dazzle, hitting a seemingly effortless stride and kicking away by four lengths as the field strung out behind him… the three quarter time 1:20.2…the fastest three quarter clocking in the history of Mohawk Raceway! The Beach coasted in for a one and three quarter length Simcoe Stakes victory in a final time of 1:50.1.
